Sponsored by AngloGold Ashanti, the AuDITIONS Riches of Africa (formerly Riches of Africa Jewellery Design Competition) is open to all South African designers, be they from jewellery or any other design discipline. The competition encourages entries from South Africa's pool of young design talent, predominantly from technicons nationwide, as well as amateur and professional designers from within jewellery and other industries.

All entrants are invited to attend Jewellery Design Seminars to hone their skills before submitting their hand rendered designs for preliminary judging. The finalists are then provided with 18 carat gold, sponsored by AngloGold Ashanti, in order to manufacture their jewellery pieces.

An independent panel of judges assesses the finished pieces according to according to seven criteria: interpretation of the theme, originality, innovation, practicality for manufacture and wearability, statement jewellery, complying with the weight restriction and quality of manufacture.

Prizes are awarded to the overall winners at a Gala Awards event, which includes a display of the finalists' pieces to the press, peers and the South African jewellery and allied industries. Most importantly, AngloGold Ashanti actively promotes the winners and their pieces by taking each collection on an exhibition tour, both nationally and internationally.
